Grant Cagney – Principal Solicitor | Criminal Law & Family Law | Rockhampton & Central Queensland
Grant Cagney is a dedicated solicitor providing legal services in criminal and family law across Rockhampton and the wider Central Queensland region. Since joining McGowran Lawyers in 2009, Grant has worked closely with the local community and now leads the firm as principal of McGowran & Cagney Lawyers.
Grant was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 2011 after completing a Bachelor of Laws at QUT and a Diploma of Legal Practice through the College of Law. He regularly appears as a solicitor advocate in the Magistrate, District and Supreme Courts, as well as the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
In 2024, Grant became the only Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law currently practising in Central Queensland. This is a significant recognition of his skills and experience in the field. He represents clients in all areas of criminal law, including traffic offences, drug matters, domestic violence, assaults, and complex charges such as fraud and homicide. In family law, Grant assists clients with parenting arrangements, divorce, and property settlement.
Grant was awarded the Justice Peter Dutney Memorial Award in 2015, recognising his commitment to maintaining a healthy work–life balance within the legal profession.
He is a past president and active member of the Central Queensland Law Association. Grant’s practical approach, strategic thinking, and clear communication have earned him a trusted reputation among clients and colleagues alike.
Rebecca Harris – Solicitor | Criminal Law & Family Law | Rockhampton & Central Queensland
Rebecca Harris joined McGowran & Cagney Lawyers in September 2020 and brings a practical, client-focused approach to her work in both family law and criminal law. Based in Rockhampton, she works closely with clients across Central Queensland.
Rebecca was admitted to practice in Queensland after completing her Bachelor of Laws through CQUniversity and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice with the College of Law. She regularly appears in the Magistrate’s Court as well as the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and provides straightforward legal guidance to those navigating challenging circumstances.
Rebecca supports clients through all aspects of family law including parenting arrangements, property settlements, divorce, and family violence matters. She also represents clients in criminal and traffic matters, including work licences, driving offences, and domestic violence proceedings.
In 2023, Rebecca was awarded the Justice Peter Dutney Memorial Award, an honour recognising work–life balance within the legal profession. She values strong client relationships and is known for her calm, empathetic nature and practical problem-solving skills.
